The Queen of the Knights, Miss Venus Knight, emerged on the scene July 5th, 2008 as a hopeful star in the world of female impersonation. Without fully knowing what was ahead, but with an unquenchable determination to grow and learn, Venus stepped onto the stage of drag in small bars in Bowling Green, Kentucky before landing a spot on the Sunday night amateur cast at Play Dance Bar in Nashville, Tennessee. Since these early beginnings, Venus also performed multiple times at PLAY Dance Bar in Louisville, KY and on many stages across the region.
In her words, “Becoming a PLAYMATE was a dream I have been dreaming for a while and have now accomplish. The day I became a PLAYMATE was a day of celebration, a day to celebrate all the hard work that propelled me to the place where I am today.”
Venus entered in a few pageants early in her career, capturing the title of Miss Genesis 2010 and Miss Stonewall 2011. Over the last 13 years, Venus Knight earned many pageant titles, including three National titles: Miss Utopia 2015, D’Elegance at Large 2018, Queen Pageantry System 2019, and Miss Kentucky F.I. 2023.
Venus enjoys female impersonation for countless reasons. “The best part is the people I get to meet and the amazing Knights. I love the feeling I get when I walk out on stage seeing the crowd enjoying my show.”
Throughout the journey of Venus’s career she was given the title of the ‘dancing queen.’ It’s not unusual to see her doing back, flips or dropping down into the splits on stage, but there is so much more to Venus than the skills and talent she displays on stage.
Outside of being an entertainer, Venus has captured other titles. She is the first member of her family to graduate from College. She completed a Major in Social Work with a double Minor in Family Studies and American Sign Language. She earned her Master’s in Social Work and later intends to pursue a Doctorate in Marriage and Family therapy. During school she was a member of the Dive team, placing 8th in the state of Kentucky and has been named athlete of the week a number of times.
Venus sees every day as a day to thank all the family, friends, and Knights who have helped and supported her to get to where she is today. Venus’s drag mother, Ivy White (1965 to 2015) was a tremendous catalyst to her success. With her guidance and support of other iconic members of our community, along with the knowledge gained through experience, education, practice, and determination to succeed, Venus is humbly grateful for the privilege to reach for the almost boundless opportunities in entertainment that lie ahead.
To show her gratitude and commitment to her Knights, Venus states, “I promise to always give a 110% from my first step on the stage to my last, and most importantly, off stage and outside of the art of female impersonation. Thank you everyone who has believed and supported me and continue to do so!”
